MY THREE SISTERS

… continues in the style of the EXISTENCE THEATRE, a term growing from a specific style of art performances, created by AIP that question certain aspects and daily banalities of human identity/identities in a globalised world, while depending on a strong experimental character and by using methods of improvisation/action. What do we really know: about the world, about others, about ourselves?

The captured performance acts get slightly revised and lead to a version of video performances that are presented in exhibitions but are often made accessible to audiences online (for a short period of time) as well.

The individual performance acts are currently produced in the AIP studio in Fremantle, Western Australia. In a multilingual and cross-cultural context selected people are invited to participate in the process of developing the Existence Theatre method further, which was started to form in late 2011.

MY THREE SISTERS is a piece reflecting on the dilemma of individualism and identity in an artistic environment. How does one rise above others? How do the simple necessities of life interfere with the individual urge to succeed in a more intellectual way?

The background to a deep reflection about existentialistic issues is provided by a simple storyboard. A small theatre company, consisting of the director and his three sisters, try to make their living by performing self-written plays. The sisters mean to rehearse and perform for the last time, before they think, the theatre will have to close its doors. But the director, even if he laments about his fate too, just acts like the show would and must go on for their real or imaginary audience.
